The Rallynuts Stages Rally makes a return to its traditional slot in the calendar in 2022, as event organisers Midland Manor Motor Club launch the details of the 48th running of the highly acclaimed gravel rally on 9 April.
After being forced to run in November last year due to the pandemic, the Builth Wells based event will run for a second time in six months as it moves back to its more familiar date and offers some of the best rally drivers in the country a swathe of iconic and little used stages.
Sponsored by established racewear and accessory firm Rallynuts Motorsport who enter their sixth year as title sponsors, the event returns to its popular rally base at the Royal Welsh Showground for the Rally HQ and mid-event service. Crews will head out to tackle forty-four miles of competitive action, spread over six stages in the Myherin, Sweet Lamb/Hafren and Sarnau forests.
Made famous by Wales Rally GB, Britain’s former round of the FIA World Rally Championship, each test offering its own unique features to push the drivers and co-drivers to the limit and the route offers seldom used stages, ensuring they are in impressive condition and ready to accept the anticipated bumper entry.
The event’s popularity was confirmed last year thanks to winning the prestigious Speedsport Trophy for the best event in the Welsh Association of Motor Clubs (WAMC) Forest National Stage Rally Championship, adding to its 2018 and 2019 victory. It also won the Chairman’s Cup in 2019 for the best event in the WAMC Historic Stage Rally Championship, further enhancing its stature as one of the most highly regarded rallies in the UK.
The rally is a qualifying round of the MRF Tyres BTRDA Rally Series, Motorsport UK Pirelli Ravenol Welsh Rally Championship, West Wales Rally Spares HRCR Stage Masters, the Brian Dennis Motorsport / Bluefin & Marsh Welsh Historic Rally Championship and the IPS Rally Challenge, ensuring a wide range of entrants will head for the region over the course of the weekend.
Competitors will be well catered for with dedicated overnight parking at the Showground on Friday evening, before heading out into the stages on Saturday morning from 08:00. Contenders in the lower engine capacity and historic classes RF1.4, RF2.0, 1400C, 1400S and H1 and H2 will run at the front of the field in a reverse seeded order to ensure prime road conditions before the main field follow on in a traditional seeded format. The lucky winners will return to Showground for the finish celebrations just after 16:00 later that day.
As regulations launch this week, entries for the rally will open on Monday 28th February at 19:00 and competitors are encouraged to enter early to avoid disappointment. Spectators will be welcomed to attend the event once again this year, with more information on locations and timings available closer to the rally.
